ABOUT

Jean-Joseph Bellamy has spent most of his professional life in international development. He started his career with a 2.5-year stay in Niger, West Africa as a volunteer where he learned to speak Hausa and ride a camel! Using the volunteer network, Jean-Jo then crisscrossed North, West & Central Africa for about 1.5 years before getting his agricultural engineering degree. In 1984, Jean-Jo became the co-manager of a small French NGO ("Association Bois de Feu"), where he was in charge of domestic energy projects in West Africa. In 1987, he was offered a position as Technical Advisor to lead the establishment of a Domestic Energy Bureau in Niger, the first such institution in West Africa. Jean-Jo immigrated to Canada in 1988 and got his MBA from the University of Ottawa in 1991. He returned to international development working as a Senior Consultant coordinating large international projects until 1998, when he moved to Kingston, Jamaica to be the Program Manager of ENACT (Environmental Action) program, a capacity development in environment program funded by CIDA and the Government of Jamaica. Since 2005, he has worked as an independent Senior International Management Consultant, engaged primarily with UN organizations for projects and programs funded by the GEF and implemented by UNDP, UNEP, FAO and other UN Agencies. His career to date has taken him to over 50 developing countries. As a Senior Management Consultant he provides consulting services to international development programs and projects focusing on environmental management frameworks and related capacity development needs.

  • Dedicated to a total quality approach and highly motivated toward goal achievement

  • Completed MBA in top 5th percentile (recipient of Ontario Graduate Scholarship and U of Ottawa Scholarship, 1990 91)

  • Fully bilingual (English - French)

  • Extensive PC and software knowledge as well as information system development

As part of his business, Bellamy Consultants developed a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. This program has 3 components:

  • Reduce and ultimately eliminate the use of paper: Using good computer screens to draft and edit reports, there is no need to print these documents saving paper. Currently only one block of 500 sheets is used per year. 

  • Reinvest 0.7% of its revenue in microfinance through the operator Kiva (kiva.org): Jean-Joseph Bellamy's portfolio of loans can be seen here. Contributions are loaned to Borrowers interest free and once the loans are repaid, the fund is reinvested into other loans. 

  • Reduce his carbon foot-print: As an extensive traveller, Jean-Joseph Bellamy is looking into reducing his carbon foot-print. No actions have taken place yet but the plan is to carbon off-set the flights by investing in solar/alternative energy (possibly for his own consumption) and/or in carbon reduction program such as forest plantations.  

Mr. Bellamy was a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) from 2000 to 2020. CMC is the international professional designation in management consulting recognized in 43 countries. It represents a commitment to the highest standards of consulting and the adherence to the ethical canons of the profession.
